Sometimes, in fact many times, people make moves in online poker that astound me with their stupidity. So many times you see people call big bets with nothing, or with a draw they have a minimal percentage chance of completing. Or you’ll see people raising wildly every third hand with no rhyme or reason, seemingly because they have nothing better to do. And the worst thing about these people is when they make one of these stupid plays, get lucky, and win a whole bunch of poker online chips. Of course, it’s even worse when it happens to you. This exact situation happened to me when playing a session of poker the other day, and it was quite infuriating. I was sitting in late position near the button, and some fellow two seats before me made a big raise, about four times the size of the pot. I looked down at my hand saw two queens looking up at me. I just called; with the size of the raise there was a decent chance he may have had K-K or A-A. So the flop comes down 7-10-2. He checks and I make a big bet. He goes all-in, but since it didn’t cost me that much more chips to call, I did. Wouldja believe my astonishment when he showed 7-9?! Why would anyone make a huge raise with that hand, much less go all in on the flop with it with only middle pair. Anyway, as you can likely guess, a 9 came on the turn, and I lost the hand. What can be done? Not much, really. I was all-in with the best hand, an overwhelming favorite, and that’s all you can ask for. You just hope you’re luck is better next time around.
