On the US East Coast, the poker room operators are capitalizing on the debilitating conditions on travel. With the massive snowstorms hitting the coast, there are thousands upon thousands of people stuck in their homes, and out of those thousands, several are poker players. PokerSiteScout.com, an player online poker tracker and traffic monitor site, has shown that the snow storms have significantly boosted the traffic on the internet poker sites. I mean, really, what else there to do? You could shovel snow, risk driving somewhere, watch some TV, surf the web, or try your luck at making some money online. The last sounds like the best option to me. On average on of the largest poker sites in the world has about 30,000 players online at any given time. Over the past few weeks, those numbers have been topping out at the 50,000 mark, a whopping 66% increase in traffic. As a businessperson, you can’t deny such a boost in traffic is good not only for revenue, but good for the business long term. It’s one of the oldest business models to date. Give a player a taste, and if it’s in their blood, if they are risk takers, they’ll be back, time and again. And more players means more rake, and more rake equals more development and a better salary for the higher ups. Makes you wonder if the CEOs of these poker operations are doing snow dances to the poker gods.
