poker online players often use terms to describe players as strong or weak. Strong players are often called “rocks” because they play solid online poker poker. Maniacs are loose aggressive players who raise with seemingly crazy hands that most players would fold. Being “table captain” is the best case scenario for a player because it designates who is dominating the action. The table captain has by far the biggest stack of chips, and uses it to wield power over the other players. Other players typically avoid getting mixed up with a table captain, which then allows the table captain to steal blinds and pots with big bets. But since anything can happen in poker, the table captain can also lose chips and status by being beat just a few times. Then there are the online poker players who are weak, inexperienced or just plain dumb. These players continually donate their chips to the pot, only to see those chips shipped to another player. Smart players recognize these suckers, and refer to them in several ways. Donkey is the term bestowed on a player who keeps calling bets – making “crying calls” even when it’s obvious a losing proposition. ATMs – for automatic teller machine – act just like a money dispenser by continually throwing their chips into the pot and losing. Fish are weak players that savvy sharks hunt out and prey upon at the table. A table sheriff is one who always has to go to showdown to keep other players “honest.” It is hard to bluff when a sheriff is sitting at the table, though these players act like ATMs too and often go bust quickly.
