Buying goods online is more and more popular these days. It offers an unprecedented choice of products all purchasable without actually leaving the comfort of your home. This is really perfect for those of us who dislike the idea of hitting the shops on the weekend or after work. As more and more of us become connected to the internet and have access to online payment methods the level of online shopping increases month on month. Shoppers are not just buying products such as a shoulder bag or a large weekend bag on the web, but they are banking, booking their vacations and settling their bills.
Residing in some countries can cause problems
The shipment of goods is one area where people who buy on the internet can be affected. This can cause headaches as items can go missing or take forever to arrive. Some sellers refuse to deliver to addresses different to the card holders address or even to not ship to some countries at all. If when you shop online you are away from home you can get your transaction cancelled as the merchant may wrongly suspect a fraudulent transaction is taking place. Your location will be noted by the seller and if it does not match your home address they may cancel the transaction as they believe it is being done with a stolen or copied card.
Another issue to consider when shopping online is the possibility of being charged import duties in your country. A shopper residing in the Europe will not be charged import taxes for making any transactions from within that region. If the shopper were to buy their goods from America though they could well face an import charge if the value is high enough. You could find yourself in a state of surprise when you are asked to pay money to the delivery person to obtain your goods.
Due to there being more trade done online these day there is also more opportunity for counterfeit goods to be sold. In a recent crackdown there has been hundreds of websites in the United Kingdom which have been closed down as they were selling fake items. Unfortunately some unlucky consumers had already been conned by these goods before the closures. Buying from sites which are not well established online names can be a big risk. Always check the site you are shopping on to make sure they give a postal address, telephone number and if that offer seems too good to believe then it could well be! When you shop at sites such as Ebay which deal in auctions then you should take extra care as they can be full of fake and knock-off designer branded items.
