I was an old phone and broadband customer of BT and had no trouble with them but that relationship changed when they decided to administer a £9 quarterly fee as a penalty for not taking up direct debit service to pay the bill. It was not the sum but the decision that I don’t put up with, I have been making use of post office to pay my bills and I have no interest to change my habit. I made the decision to quit my broadband and phone provider to a provider that would not punish me for being old school. After looking around I decided on Virgin due to its value for money offer as well as a free on demand television service which I figured could be handy. The installation came shortly and proficiently and Virgin didn’t charge a single pence for that. However I soon realized I had a problem with web. With BT connection I was able to reach to 5mb internet speed not exactly remarkable but I had not got any problem traversing the web other than the occasional problem when doing some downloading. Anyway with Virgin who boast quicker speeds than BT I was only achieving 2.5mb and the internet problem kept disconnecting. The internet connections turned so bad that when this was reported to Virgin they accepted an engineer would come on-site for free checking. On the other hand BT had made me pay £70 previously upfront without guaranteeing that pathetic 5 minutes visit would get anything repaired. The engineer who turned up did a adequately good job. After making the necessary checks the engineer turned on and off the internet and computer a number of times until he confirmed that all problems were fixed and he impressed on me for his work ethics and courtesy to the degree that I was comfortable to let him through the door; for an elderly lady the thoughtful actions of showing proper identification and confirming my Virgin account did such a good job before he was allowed in, these days organizations just don’t pay enough attention to the elderly in one way or another. It has been months since that last engineer visited and my internet now works fine . My phone bills are virtually free and my t.v. Package is the best deal I can watch old episodes of Murder She Wrote whenever there is nothing on free to air tv. Richard Branson has indeed made an aged lady breath easier!
