Those of us who have lost ourselves along the way due to childhood or adult trauma, addictions, or other misfortunes are profoundly aware of the role serenity can play in re-creating and maintaining a self, a life, and a future.

Many of us have at some point misplaced our self-esteem, self-respect, and self-worth. We have separated ourselves from others and lost family members and friends we love because of our own self-absorbed, self-righteous, or self-deprecating thoughts. Shame abolishes serenity.

When we lose our sense of authentic self, we define ourselves through what others think of us. This can be devastating for those who do not fit the status quo. And sometimes we lose ourselves entirely and find solace in negative, harmful waysways that momentarily quell the pain.

We have tried in the past to live up to the expectations of others in order to feel accepted. Our progress was unrewarded because we were obsessed with perfection. Perfection is final. There is no room for growth.

Regaining our sense of self requires change. To do so, it is imperative that we stay aware of the goal: progress, not perfection. Serenity is the beacon that assists us in staying that course.

Change is going on all around us. Sometimes its radical and sometimes its superficial. We see it in nature with the change of seasons. Our bodies are a constant reminder of changefrom the length of our hair to the shapes of our torsos. We change our minds incessantly as thoughts and feelings come and go, making us different in some particular way.

However we meet change and whatever the purpose for change, serenity is our strongest ally. It is the rudder that directs us through the often chaotic times of change.

Often, that which we thought protected us changes. Prior to suicide bombers, we felt secure in the might of our weapons. While growing up, our parents’ presence may have fostered a sense of security. When we are healthy we feel more secure than when we are ill. Having money, being in a relationship, having a steady job, and being part of the accepted group all conspire to a sense of security.

During times of change, it is important to understand the distinction between security and serenity.

Serenity is an elevating, intimate, spiritual experience of connection to some unseen life-enhancing potential, power, or presence.

Serenity is developed through a conscious relationship with this Higher Power, Self, God, Universe, etc.

Serenity is independent of organized religion, philosophy, gender, age, status, past, future, or any physical condition.

The experience of serenity may be achieved in many ways: nature, music, reading, silence, poetry, stillness, dance, art, prayer, exercise, meditation. Regardless of the channel, the experience of serenity itself connects us to something greater. My life opened up dramatically the day I admitted that I needed help during times of change. Humility and serenity go hand in hand.

Serenity is the outcome of a fundamental shift in the focus of who we are, and where our authentic power lives.

Serenity is a function of inner values and character. Our talents may get us to the goal; however it is our character that sustains us.

Security, on the other hand, is most often a function of physical possessions, or the lack and rejection thereof, and is ego-based.

Many of us know first hand that succumbing to the capitalistic view of extreme consumerism can lead to a moral, ethical and spiritual impoverishment that breeds resentment, stealth, and blindness. There is a trap door we can easily fall through when we place to much value on our possessions as conduits for serenity. Our well-being becomes dependent on things rather than our true self.

Serenity is a shift from separation to connectedness. The effect of this transformation not only impacts the unseen levels of our consciousness, but also our everyday actions and reactions with each other.

Serenity creates a dynamic wherein we are all esteemed as equal to the wellbeing of humanity and the earth itself.

Serenity is a shift from experiencing our worth through our possessions, which is actually security, to who we are as human beings and the contribution we are regardless of what we possess.

The opposite of depression is not happiness, it is feeling vital.

Serenity shifts our focus from ruminating on what is lacking, which can cause depression, to a more expanded and congruent vision of possibilities that encourage vitality. Everyone is needed.

Serenity fosters gratitude and appreciation for what we have, and develops the experience of our individual and collective sufficiency.

When you are in the process of positive change, say yes to it. Declare that you are safe and remind yourself that it is only change.

Center yourself in serenity. Go beyond other people’s fears and limitations. Release all doubts, and free yourself from the past.

Claim your own authentic power. It is a mighty presence within you and will connect you to life itself.

Go ahead. Open new doors to life.

Are you a melancholic online business owner by nature? I have something to tell you.

In case you do not know what melancholy is, a melancholic person is someone who has a very detailed attitude. He or she is very aware of his or her surroundings, usually is good with words, and often good planners and strategists. Seeking details is probably their second nature.

I like everything about melancholic people except for one thing – they usually lack the initiative to take action. Very often, they are phlegmatic by nature and this, my friend, can be their greatest weakness.

How often have you met people who have told you a lot of their plans – about what they wanted to do in life and in the near future – but never happened? Are you one of them?

You probably had friends who told you about their great plans and being a great melancholy, their plans are usually very detailed. Ironically, when time passes, their plan never materialized. More often that not, the excuse lies behind their lack of will to take action.

This happens almost everyday. You will also find that this is a very great challenge to all who are looking to start their own Online Business where putting in sweat equity is concerned.

So, plan a little. We all still need to plan to succeed. You do not have to be very detailed, though. You might cringe at this fact but the logic is, very detailed plans make it sound as if it is “too much work”. Now, are you no longer surprise why most people lack the will to take action?

If you do not believe me, here is an analogy I would like you to compare.

[1] I plan to go to town. I will take buses No. 6 and 24 to reach there. I will probably reach town in an hour.

[2] I plan to go to town. I will walk out of the house, turn left, turn right, go straight, wait at the bus stop, climb up Bus No. 6, pay the fare, take a seat, stop at the bus terminal, walk down the platform, climb up Bus No. 24, pay the fare, take a seat, wait, and stop at the City Square.

Of the two plans, which one sounds like “too much work”? The two plans still lead to the same destination. If a friend in your neighborhood asks you for direction to town, which of the above two plans will you tell him?

I believe you get my point by now. On the same token, plan on what you need to do. Be precise and concise. Some extra details in your plan can be included but make sure they are useful. Your plans do not need spare parts just as your DIY tools do not need any. More “spare parts” in your plan is going to weigh a lot on your desire to take action.

Sometimes to succeed in Online Business, you have to be a little bit choleric. You have to take control of your Online Business especially during its infancy stages. Your lack of control is a very good weapon to kill it so beware. Take control.

I know that there are people who are afraid of making mistakes but let us be realistic – we are all human. We make mistakes – whether we like it or not.

The best thing we can do is learn from our mistakes as much as possible and avoid making major mistakes. If you take control and make mistakes, at least you are in control and you can change it, not something or somebody else.

I also believe that we are all smart people in one way or another. Most of us just lack the will to take action. This simple formula summarizes it all:

Most of us are very intelligent people but without work, there will be no results. Now it is a small wonder why the people whom we call half-wits still get ahead of us.

Be action-oriented. Produce results!

My name is Stephen Hill. I am thirty-two years of age and live in Birmingham, England. From the age of four I unfortunately had a speech impediment known as stuttering. This impediment basically ruined my life for eighteen years before I finally managed to overcome the stutter. This article is all about stuttering or as some people call it stammering.

Stammering or stuttering can have a dramatic effect on somebodys confidence and it certainly seemed to my crush mine. It made me accept second best in life and stopped me living my life as I wanted to.

It is extremely difficult for a fluent person to comprehend how hard it is to live your life with a speech impediment or stutter.

I now run one to one speech courses which are held in Birmingham. A couple of years ago one of my clients told me about a situation he had been involved in. He and his friends went to a bar one Saturday afternoon to have a few drinks. After a couple of pints he went up to the bar to order himself a drink. Unfortunately he could not speak all of the words fluently and the barman accused him of being drunk and refused to serve him. He tried to explain that he was not drunk but had a stutter, however the barman relpied, that’s what they all say.

He returned to his friends who asked him where his drink was. He told them what had happened, this itself was very embarressing.

This is a typical situation people who have a stutter or stammer find themselves in.

Who do you consider as your worst enemy? The criminals roaming
the dark streets? Your boss who’s killing you mentally and
emotionally with stress and harsh words? The people in office
who are engaging in graft and corruption, instead of helping

We have many implications of who our enemies are; but we have one common foe who is the main cause of our failures and misfortunes, and we’re not even aware of this opponent.

You may not want to admit it, but our worst enemy is ourselves.

Who do you blame when something goes wrong? You blame the people around you, the weather, maybe even God. But we are the ones who are in control of ourselves. We can change the outcome of our lives because we have the capacity to do that.

It is our fear, jealousy, greed, etc. that is ruining our lives. Some people who never managed to get out of poverty blame the government or their jobs. But they’re too afraid to try out new ventures that may improve their lives. They half-heartedly go to work on their 9 to 5 job. Then when the day is done, they watch TV and go out aimlessly having fun without seriously thinking of what great opportunity the future has in store for them, if only they would try to do something different with their lives.

Fear has caused many to remain frigid and to never go out exploring the wonderful things this world has to offer. Lots of people would rather stay where they are in an unsatisfied state than to risk difficulties and obstacles for the sake of attaining their dreams.

If their lives are not getting any better, they have no else
to blame but themselves.

Jealousy and envy has also caused some relationship problems. Some people immediately jump to conclusions without first analyzing the situation. They let their sudden emotions control their behaviors without even thinking of the consequences that may result.

If they’re having problems with their relationships, they have no else to blame but themselves.

This goes to show that we decide what will happen to us. Of course, there are circumstances that are beyond our control, like natural calamities. But we can still utilize to our best advantage the things that we have control of.

For instance, you got rejected by your dream girl. Some people would just get drunk and feel miserable, thinking that it’s the end of the world. Some will move onwards with their lives and find the best in what remains with them. See? It’s really up to you. You decide if you want to have a good life or not.

You failed in your exams? So what? There’s another opportunity. You can just sulk in sorrow or you can study harder to get a high score in the future. It’s up to you.

There’s no use crying over spilled milk. You don’t have to get frustrated over your misfortunes. Concentrate on how you could get better in the future.

If we encounter problems, we can either succumb to it, or we can treat it as an opportunity to become stronger and to become better individuals. Winners would always treat their dilemmas as opportunities.

Oh yes. We can be our worst enemy, but we can also be our best friend. It’s all up to you!

You will begin to realise why this exercise is called the Dickens Pattern (with reference to the ghost showing Scrooge some different futures) as you notice that the idea of this exercise is to hypnotize yourself to be aware of two very real possibilities for your future. Two distinct pathways that you could take for your life this very day.

Have a think about something that you do that you are maybe not motivated to change about yourself. Prior to running through this technique, just have a think about something that you know you need to be doing, but are not. Then with that thing in mind, follow these simple steps.

Step One: Get yourself nice and relaxed and settled. Concentrate on your breathing, engage in the moment and spend some time being still, quiet and drift inside of your own mind. Hypnotize yourself here.

Step two: Use your imagination to imagine walking down the path of your life.

Ok, I know that some of you just cried out “but I can’t visualise!” First up, if you believe you can’t then of course you can’t. Second up, just imagine these things. They do not have to be in cinema screen perfect detail. You can remember what colour what your front door is, right? You can remember what your childhood bedroom is like, right? That is your imagination doing that. You know the sound that your feet make when you walk across gravel don’t you? You can imagine it, but you are not hearing it in your ears, are you? Just imagine these things as best as you can. Failing that, pretend that you are imagining them and that will do the trick.

So, as you imagine walking along the path of your life, notice that every step forwards is a minute, an hour or a day into your future. If you look back, you will notice that your past is there; everything you have ever done or experienced is behind you.

Become aware of the temperature, the sights, the sounds and enjoy walking along the path of your life. Make it sensory rich and get comfortable with the idea. Imagine the feeling of your feet walking along the path and the sound they make. Engage with the idea of really being there.

Step Three: Imagine that a few more steps ahead there is a place where the path splits, where is goes off to the left and off to the right. Pause here for a few moments and have a think. Here, there are two different pathways, two possibilities, two ways that you could choose to go.

If you were to choose the path to the left, life is pretty much the same as it is. You carry on doing the same things, living the same way and dealing with this thing in the same way as you have been doing.

If you were choose the path to the right, the right path, there are new possibilities, achievement, freedom of mind, positive and progressive implications. Think about that as you stand at this place where the path splits. You want to make a decision and commit to one of these paths. Before you make that decision, we are going to see what each path holds for your future.

Step Four: Step out on to the path to your left. Where there is no change. Briefly imagine that you are not going to live and discover your unfulfilled dreams. Instead, you continue doing what you have in the past. What will life be like in 10 years time?

Step out, every step you take you get older, days pass, weeks pass. Notice how your body is, how your mind is, how you feel about staying on this path. Walk out into your future to the 10 year point. Walk out 10 years into your future and feel how it feels to carry on doing the same thing.

This path is just like today, with one difference: you have 10 fewer years remaining in your life. I want you to think about how you will feel in 10 years if you continue doing the exact same things you have done to date. What will your daily life be like?

Really experience that. See what you see, hear what you hear, feel the feelings. Disappointment? Anger? Frustration? Failure? How does that feel? How do you affect those around you? How do they feel? Absorb every aspect of this path that you can take today if you so choose. Notice everything that you need to know about what it will be like if you carry on with the same behaviour, putting off change.

Drift back to where the path splits.

Step Five: Now take a step out on to the path to the right. This is where you create powerful, progressive change. Notice the sense of freedom in your thoughts, the sense of accomplishment and walk out 10 years into your future.

Imagine you are 10 years into the future but this time it’s different. Why? Because starting today you actually begin making changes in your life. Specific intentional changes are not easy. They are intentional because these changes are changes that you are choosing and they are the changes that will cause you to live the life you want to live and dream. They often mean leaving the perception of security in order to discover your personal freedom. These are the changes that will bring happiness and satisfaction into your life.

Just go there now. 10 years out… having made a decade of changes. Imagine living the life you want to live.

How does that feel inside? Do you feel that you have lived life? See the people of your life and how they feel about you and how they react to you. This is the path of a different choice, a different decision. You have the freedom to be how you want to be.

Absorb all you need from this moment in your future and the positive things that you can learn consciously and unconsciously and then drift and float back to the place where the path splits.

Step Six: Now that you know and have experienced the two contrasting futures. Now that you know what your future holds as a result of what you do this very day, you can make a decision. You can compare and contrast those two futures that can be yours based on a decision that you make about how you are going to live your life.

Imagine reaching deep inside you for all the strength and wisdom that you need to make this decision today. As you do so, imagine that when you choose to make that decision that deep inside your mind you are switching off the alternative path, you are switching off the opportunity to drift back to that place.

Then step out and take your future path.

Absorb yourself in the sensations, the feelings, the sights, the sounds and of course continue to engage in your future the way I have discussed in previous articles on this blog.

Step Seven: Open your eyes and begin to plan your future and take action to achieve that outcome. Your unconscious mind now knows what it is working towards.

What is the exact sequence of events that will take you to where you want to be? Have a think consciously of what you need to do. Every outcome begins with the first step. When you decide you want to have a romantic meal for two, there are many steps that you need to perform in order for that to happen. (Check the fridge, do you have what you want to serve up? No? Find keys, open garage door, drive car to the supermarket etc. etc.) You need to determine the exact sequence of events and write it down.

Begin with the outcome in mind. Write without stopping. 10 years from now, I plan to be living in a… at…. With…. Get really detailed about it. Why? Because you are hooking up the neural connections in your brain. You must improve upon, clarify and make clear just exactly who and what you are going to be doing, experiencing, living and having in 10 years. This is the first step of the process!

Key: Notice how you felt excited and optimistic when you did this? The reason is simple. It’s the life you are designing instead of the one that was given you and that you have lived with less intention and purpose to date.

This is the beginning of creating the life that you want to live. Know what the future holds for you as a result of the choice you can make today.

How you respond to How are You reveals a great deal about you.

“Hi! How are you?”

“Not bad, you?”

How many times have you started a conversation this way? I’ll bet you do it nearly every time you say hello. We have been trained to the cultural activity of inquiring of our friends and acquaintances well being, even if we don’t really care. It’s the civil thing to do. But I’m going to focus on your response to this ubiquitous question.

Last month I introduced the PINT concept (Put It iN Thought), now I’m going to expand this concept to how it can begin to really make a change in your daily life. If you remember, PINT makes thoughts reality. When we extend what we say as the reflection of what we are thinking PINT becomes our reality.

Now if I respond to the ever present “how are you?” question with something like “OK, I guess” then I am reflecting indecision or even negative thoughts about how I feel or even who I think I am. If I respond with “Man, my shoulder is really killing me this morning. I must have slept on it wrong again.” Then I am letting my physical condition rule my mental condition. Hurt and pain are negative impulses made to inform us of a dangerous or inappropriate activity. It is negative response to a negative activity. You body is saying ‘Quit that, it hurts!’

I’m going out on a limb here for a bunch of you, but I have proven this over and over again in my own life. Over the past two years I have purposefully changed how I respond to this simple question. I always answer with a positive. I’m not just great, I’m Fantastic, Happy, Gigantic or even Awesome. You see when I overcome the physical and emotional aches and pains with a positive response I begin to feel better. It’s just putting PINT into practice. Thoughts become reality after all. Your non-conscious brain doesn’t know the difference.

A successful real state sales friend of mine used to tell me “Andrew, fake it until you make it.” He was right. If I tell myself I’m OK, I’ll begin to believe it and eventually my body will begin to agree. Now you probably think “That Andrew he’s pulling my leg.” But why should I? I don’t have anything to gain by telling you something that isn’t true. Napoleon Hill, Tony Robbins, Wayne Dyer and Norman Vincent Peale all agree on one thing – Attitude is Everything. Did you ever notice if you believe something is going to happen, it usually does. Did you ever wonder why? Pretty simple – PINT.

I want to challenge you to do something this month. I want you to get up every morning and declare to yourself that you are going to be Fantastic, Happy, Awesome, Glad, Joyful, Handsome or Beautiful and Enthusiastic. That’s seven, one for each day. Make up a card and keep it with you all day long. Put it on the dash of the car and look at it as you drive to and from work each day. If you forget, don’t panic, just pick up with the next word and keep going. You should go through the list at least four times during the month. Next month I’ll have seven new words for you to expand your vocabulary of thoughts.
